(Why Don't You Take) The Other Side?

(Why Don’t You Take) The Other Side?

$13.99

Given that he’s got an extensive background as a pianist in Germany’s rich jazz scene — having made a home in Munich after moving from his native Milan — Robert Di Gioia’s work as the virtually one-man-band behind (Why Don’t You Take) The Other Side? comes as something of a surprise. No doubt he’s had to gradually ease out of some of the most defining traits of his original craft throughout his tenure as Marsmobil; though it began as an amalgam of lounge jazz and electronica in 1999, it fully culminates here with a far-removed, fascinatingly wide-ranging set sporting an abundance of tributaries. This is a tour de force of immaculately mind-bending pastoral pop, with an arsenal of instruments at play and only one finger on the trigger. Early album highlight and single “Crazy Colored Lights” utilizes a neat little tactic of segmenting the words of the title in a fleeting vocal harmony, and cycling them repeatedly as an isolated sonic tidbit floating over the rest — the perfect sonic equivalent of a kaleidoscopic image that does much to set the stage for what follows. One of the album’s two guests also shows up on this track in the form of a spoken word interlude by an entity known as the Illusionists, a strangely riveting out-of-left-field segment on a song that has already done much to ingratiate itself. You could swear that Mark Everett of Eels makes an appearance on the equally strong “Moon of Dust,” but as it turns out the song is intended merely as an “homage to Eels,” and is actually that much more impressive for it. At 16 tracks it would be tempting to assume there’d be some filler here, but this masterwork simply unfolds with nary a dull or derivative moment. Pianos and keyboard-driven sounds are the most consistently featured sonic implement, but in many cases they are used to lay the groundwork or simply twinkle at the higher end of the spectrum while other instruments take the spotlight. Such is the case with the deftly executed “Lolly,” which…

Practical lighting that leaves both hands free to fish is an essential requirement for fishermen using a non-motorized boat or boat with a manual starting motor at night. Camping brings you to the back country and the wild. Lighting is necessary for walking safely and hanging out in the nighttime. Safety is also an important fact to consider. Both of these problems need to be addressed when you want to go out at night on a budget. So we are highly suggesting you this LED headlamp for nighttime running. The best headlamp designed with slip-resistant PVC body maintains constant brightness. Toughened optical glass lens ensures you an ultra-clear beam up to 200m. The high capacity can provide a long time use. This headlamp can adapt to any situations, and it has three lighting levels which can instantly adjust the lighting strength up or down. This flashlight headlamp provides hands free operation for a wide variety of activities from cycling and back packing to spelunking and hiking. There are a plethora of gift possibilities for the outdoor-oriented man. One obvious choice is to buy a gift that can be used in any of a man’s outdoor endeavors. 1912 Olympic Games: Results for All Competitors in All Events, with Commentary

$95

The 1912 Olympic Games held in Stockholm, Sweden, were the most “modern” Olympic Games yet celebrated and the most successful of the Modern Era to that date. Much of the success is credited to the influence of Viktor Balck, who is remembered as “The Father of Swedish Sports.” The 1912 Olympics also featured new innovations and events. A semiautomatic electrical timing device and a photo-finish camera were used, and the decathlon and modern pentathalon were new events. This work, the sixth in a series on the early Olympics, provides unusually extensive information on the sites, dates, competitors, and nations of the Stockholm games. Results for each event, including cycling, diving, fencing, rowing and sculling, shooting, tennis, water polo, and yachting, among others, are provided.Author Biography: Bill Mallon is a cofounder and vice president of the International Society of Olympic Historians (ISOH) and the original editor of the Journal of Olympic History. He is an orthopaedic surgeon in Durham, North Carolina. Ture Widlund, a resident of Stockhom, is also the coauthor of The 1896 Olympic Games.

Excerpt: The 1921 Tour de France was the 15th Tour de France, taking place June 26 to July 24, 1921. The total distance was 5484 km and the average speed of the riders was 24.720 km/h. The race was won by Belgian Leon Scieur. The Belgians dominated the entire race, partly due to the absence of the French Pélissier brothers, who were on bad terms with the Tour organisation. Scieur’s victory was largely uncontested; Hector Heusghem came close after the sixth stage, but lost time later. The organisation tried to get the cyclist to attack more by several means, but this failed. The 1920 Tour de France had been dominated by Belgian cyclists, who won twelve of the fifteen stages, and the top seven of the overall classification. The French cyclists Henri and Francis Pélissier had stopped the 1920 Tour de France after Henri received a penalty from the Tour organisation for throwing away a tire, and they were still fighting. Therefore, the Pélissier brothers did not join the 1921 Tour de France. Two veteran cyclists who did join the race were Ernest Paul and Lucien Pothier, both forty years old. Paul rode his first Tour de France in 1908, while Pothier had started in the first Tour de France in 1903, and finished second. The winner of 1921, Philippe Thys, was the dominant stage racer of the time, but he was recovering from an illness and could not compete for the victory. The economic impact of World War I was still not over, so as in the previous years there were not sponsored teams, but the cycling companies had bundled their forces under the nick La Sportive. The cyclists were divided in two categories, this time named 1ère class (first class), the professionals, and 2ème classe (second class), the amateurs. This year, some of the second class cyclists
